The Enterprise Policy Group (EPG) was established in 2000 by the European Commission. Its aim is to advise the Commission on enterprise policy issues. The Group is composed of two different sections, one comprising high-level representatives from national ministries dealing with industrial and enterprise policy issues (EPG Directors General) and the other - the Professional Chamber - for high-level experts from the enterprise community.
The EPG Business Chamber consists of senior representatives with substantial management experience in private enterprises. The members of the Business Chamber have been selected following an open call for applications according to a set of criteria (recent work experience in a senior management function in a private company, the capacity to consider issues concerning the competitiveness of companies at a European or international level, experience with the work of business associations or similar bodies, a good understanding of the particular needs of small and medium-sized enterprises and a good understanding of the role of policy instruments in helping foster innovation in the private sector).
The group brings together substantial expertise from a broad range of sectors across the European Union.
Its members are appointed in a personal capacity and are expected to contribute their own views, based on their own professional experience. Members are not supposed to represent the positions of business associations.
The membership of the Professional Chamber is renewed every two years. Its members are selected by the Commission from a wide range of applicants.
